G words

On a recent business trip, a client and I made our way down a flight of stairs, conversing about various aspects of her company’s building. We exited the stairway at the G level.

“You know what G stands for, right?” she asked.

If it’s one thing I can see a mile away, it’s a trick question. But sometimes, just because I can see it doesn’t mean I don’t walk right into the trap.

“Um, um, um,” I said, suddenly unable to think of any word that started with G — including my own name — other than GROUND. “Um, um, um.”

“Come on, Genie,” she said.

“Ground?” I had to say it. Like I said, I could not think of Genie, or Goofball, or Greatest Generation. Grasshopper? Gone.

“Garden!” she said. “It’s the Garden level!”

Oh. Right. THAT word that begins with G.

Geez! I had no idea. I guess it’s a penny thing obvious to some at ground level and not others.

Gigatron and Ginormous would be all I could think of. Calling ‘Ground’ is genius!

Kären, I think you’re right — definitely like a penny thing!

    Melinda, yeah…totally!

Katie, that’s exactly how I felt.

    MHectic, I love Gigatron!

Curtis, I’ve heard of it, but maybe at a hotel?

Kate, at least I know I’m not alone!
