Gillie, I have to say...I've never had that thought about peaches. But yes -- the downside of eating seasonally is it means there are limits to the eating. Luckily, they're short-term limits!

It will be eons before we get any peaches. Although despite some sniping from my southern based relatives ... even up here in the frozen north of the UK we can grow nectarines and peaches on our south facing wall (darned leaf curl permitting!!).

But that photo takes me back 25 years or so when I worked in a hospital in the Transkei in South Africa. Everything was seasonal, you only got what was in season and you got it day in and day out. During peach time I can remember dreaming of crisp, crunchy apples and swearing I would never ever eat another peach as long as I lived :LOL

Mary, that's the amazing thing about living here -- so much grows here that so much of it has just been picked!

Aiyana, I bet it would be worth it -- you should make the drive!

Crafty Gardener, daylilies are gorgeous, aren't they?

Lydia, I know -- I feel like it's way too early to be eating peaches...but I'm also not going to fight it!

Brenda, I did buy some from these folks and they were delicious.

Prairierobin, I bet it would be way easier to bring them on Amtrak than to bring them on a plane. Give it a try!

Wow. I haven't had a really good, juice running down my chin, peach since I left Maryland! There is just nothing better than homemade peach ice cream. I'm heading back to visit my parents in Virginia in a few weeks. I wonder if I can bring a bushel of peaches back to Iowa on Amtrak.

There are definitely some advantages to being in California -- like peaches, this early in summer.

Every year there is a peach picking period of time at a large farm about 60 miles from here. Every year I'm going to do it, but here it is, 5 years have passed and I still haven't made it. I know it would be worth it, but the drive is so long....Happy GTS,

Lifecruiser, it all depends on whether you get them at just that perfect stage of ripeness or not, I think.
